The process

What does pressing involve?

Pressing involves extracting oil from the seed or nut using mechanical pressure, without chemical solvents. Depending on the variety, the process is carried out cold or hot, which determines the extraction yield and the final characteristics of the oil.

The result is an oil with the flavour and colour typical of the fruit or seed of origin, and a nutritional profile close to that of the original raw material.

At Green Crops Spain, we cold-press varieties such as sunflower, safflower, almond, walnut, avocado, rapeseed and olive oil, each with its own sensory and nutritional profile, always maintaining batch traceability from origin through to packaging.

Pressed Green Crops

Depending on the seed

Cold and hot pressing

Cold pressing

Extraction without external heat, at a controlled temperature, which better preserves the natural flavour, colour and nutrients of the seed or fruit. This is the method we use for sunflower, safflower, almond, walnut, avocado, rapeseed and olive.

Hot pressing

Some seeds, such as soybean, require heat to be applied during pressing to improve extraction yield. This is the method we use for soybean oil.

Origin of the raw material

Organic or conventional

Organic certification

Organic

Our pressed vegetable oils — sunflower, safflower, almond, walnut and organic olive oil, among others — can be made from raw material sourced from certified organic farming, free from synthetic fertilisers and pesticides.

Conventional

We also work with conventionally sourced raw material, maintaining the same quality control and traceability throughout the pressing process.

From seed to oil

The process, step by step

01

Reception and cleaning

The seed or nut is cleaned of impurities before entering the mill.

02

Mechanical pressing

Extraction by pressure, with no chemical solvents, cold or hot depending on the seed.

03

Decanting

The oil is left to settle so that solid residues from pressing separate naturally.

04

Quality control

Physicochemical and organoleptic verification before packaging and dispatch from the plant.
